A view through the fog
some thoughts on discrimination
Two items have provoked this particular post.
First, In today’s local derby at Old Trafford there was yet more childish behaviour involving Evra and Suarez as the latter decline to shake the former’s hand. But this merely rates a brief mention.
The second item however is very different. Bideford Town Council have been told that is unlawful for them to start their meetings with prayers. The right dishonourable Mr Pickles responded by saying he would seek to force through laws “protecting people’s right to worship”. This shows a failure to understand the situation. What the decision against Bideford Town Council is about is preventing people from forcing their own variety of worship on others. A local council is by definition a secular organisation, and therefore their meetings should not contain any form of religious worship
