Imaging, Database, the-saleroom.com New Style and Some Thoughts on GE2015

There is a natural split in this post between the first three aspects and the fourth, and this will be accentuated by placement of pictures.

Among the various things I have been doing over the last couple of days are producing and uploading the last few images for the January auction (this Wednesday, starting at 10AM, Fakenham Racecourse or online via http://www.the-saleroom.com), and working on the database.

The process for adding new images to an online catalogue on the-saleroom.com has been greatly simplified. Where previously one had to email or wetransfer late images and hope that they got uploaded, one now has the capacity to edit directly, including replacing images. The process can be done by clicking and dragging from the folder in which your images are stored at your end into the space for images on the-saleroom.com. Personally I found the new system a joy to use. Now to mark the change of tack in this post here are some of those images…

25 ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? 90 90a 90b 130 ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? 387On the subject of the rest of this post, the forthcoming General Election, one should first of all remember that it is not one single contest, but 650 separate contests, each decided on a first past the post basis. The second point is that for everyone except the rich another five years of Cameron as PM will be an absolute, unmitigated disaster. Fortunately, I am saved any great difficulty in my own constituency by the fact that the only candidate with any sort of chance of dislodging the current Tory MP happens to be someone I would be happy to vote for anyway. Jo Rust (Labour) is a Unison Rep, was involved in the successful campaign against the Saddlebow incinerator, was one of those who helped We Are Norwich to make the EDL feel as small and insignificant as they were. The contrast between the incumbent and the challenger is particularly marked when it comes to the NHS – Unison Rep versus shareholder in one of the companies who stand to benefit from the carve up of the NHS. If you are in Northwest Norfolk and want to see the back of the Tories make sure that on election day you get to the polling station and vote for Jo Rust.

A couple more images to finish off – these are of lot 778, which will probably go under the hammer at approximately 2:30PM on Wednesday.

Prepping for one Auction and Imaging for Another

Today featured database work, heavy lifting and imaging. I spent the bulk of the day bringing a degree of order to the January auction lots. A full catalogue for this auction can now be viewed on the following link: http://bit.ly/1yGOwUD. In between times I imaged a very few lots for the February auction, shown below, and stashed some boxes of albums away.

In the order in which you will see them these are lots 402 (2 images), 403, 404 (2 images), 405 and 406 (2 images)

January Imaging

A brief account of my imaging activities yesterday.

Yesterday at James and Sons was devoted to imaging for the January auction (28th, Fakenham Racecourse, starts 10AM). There were some interesting items among those that I imaged.

A situation involving duplicated lot numbers kept me at work late, making sure that I left it resolvable, but overall it was a successful day, and we are on track for a successful auction.

Here are some of the images for yesterday…

James and Sons – My Last Day at Work in 2014

An important press release and some high quality images.

My day at James and Sons started with putting out a press release about a significant development (see added media) and ended with imaging some cigarette cards.

My personal twitter following (@aspitweets) continues to grow at a satisfying rate. I have a special post in mind to usher in the new year but until then enjoy these…

An Important Press Release, Twitter Following hits Four Figures and National Autism Day

An important press release made available for you.
A celebration of having reached 1,000 twitter followers.
An announcement of National Autism Day (incl mention of @AutismDay)

An otherwise mundane working day was livened up by creating a post-auction press release with an embedded image. The entire document and every image I used are in the added media. Although mention was made of other areas of interest and of our next auction (Jan 28th) the raison d’etre for this press release was to emphasise the triumph of the U-Boat Commanders Binoculars.

At lunch time today, courtesy of @charity_today, @aspitweets reached a very significant twitter landmark: 1,000 followers (I checked on my personal twitter with one hand while eating sandwiches with the other). I reckon that 55 days to reach 1,000 followers is good going for a non-celebrity.

Linked to the above is an announcement of something I found via twitter: National Autism Day, which will be held for the first time on June 5th 2015. The official twitter account is: @AutismDay and the more publicity the better.

Invoicing, Stock Database and Resolving an Image Issue

Today at James and Sons I have moved ahead of where I expected to be. Not only have I produced proper copies of all paid invoices for the last sale, I also have a complete and checked stock database for the next one, have produced those pre-auction Vendor Advice Notes that I had sufficient information to do and I amongst all that also spotted and resolved a small but serious problem with the December images.

Lot 109 is a piece of Hungarian Postal History which is unlikely to make a fortune, while lot 601 is a pair of binoculars specially designed for use on a U-Boat which will make a fortune. The image for 601 was with lot 109 while there was no image with lot 601. A quick renumbering of the binoculars image and a scan of lot 109 followed by an apologetic email to the people at the-saleroom.com did the job.

The catalogue listing we now have for this auction, which takes place at the Maids Head Hotel in Norwich, is available at: http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/james-and-son-auctioneers/catalogue-id-2901714  while those who would like to follow the auction but cannot get to Norwich can sign up to bid via www.the-saleroom.com.

I have a few images of lots that exceeded their estimates (in one case spectacularly so) at the last auction, as well as two items mentioned earlier.

My personal twitter account, @aspitweets continues to thrive, having recently passed 700 followers.

Now for those images…

This sewing machine was estimated at between £15 and 20 and actually made £140 - and with the successful bidder being Tunisian the postage was nearly as much!

Preparing for one auction and imaging for another

A split day today, partly setting up tomorrow’s auction down at Fakenham Racecourse and partly imaging for the December auction back at the shop. A full catalogue for tomorrow’s auction can be viewed at http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/james-and-son-auctioneers/catalogue-id-2901720, and if you cannot get to Fakenham tomorrow you can also register to bid online at www.the-saleroom.com.

My main imaging task today was producing pictures for the back cover of the next catalogue, some of the highlights being included below. I also imaged some postal history lots after this with what was left of the day.

Preparing for Auction and Twitter Following Hits 500

I have been at work today, preparing the auction side of my database for the James and Sons November Auction which takes place on Saturday. A full catalogue can be viewed at: http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/james-and-son-auctioneers/catalogue-id-2901720 while if you cannot get to Fakenham Racecourse on Saturday you can sign up to bid online here: https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/my-account/login?ReturnUrl=%2Fen-gb%2Fmy-account%2Fregister%2Fsign-up%2Fevent-2901720%3FcallingPageUrl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.the-saleroom.com%2Fen-gb%2Fsearch-filter%2Fauction-catalogues%253Fauctiontype%3DLiveAuction%26clientUrlName%3Djames-and-son-auctioneers%26returnToCallingPageIfRegistered%3DFalse

I have one other piece of news to report/ celebrate: thanks to @allinoneplace hitting the follow button my tally of followers on @aspitweets has reached 500 (there has been another new follower, @charlieomalley, even since I started writing this post). Big thanks to all of these people.

This is a rarity for one of my posts – no pictures.

Preparing for auction and other stuff.

First of all, some good news from the wider world: Sheffield United finally made the right decision regarding Ched Evans – they ditched him.

Although I did some stuff on behalf of the Great Centenary Charity Auction including posting images on their facebook and twitter accounts, most of today was spent working on James and Sons upcoming auction (A week tomorrow at Fakenham Racecourse). The catalogue can be viewed at: : http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/james-and-son-auctioneers/catalogue-id-2901720 while anyone who would like to bid online can do so at:

A Hard Day’s Imaging

I have spent my entire working day imaging auction lots for James and Sons November Auction (Saturday 29th November, Prince of Wales Suite, Fakenham Racecourse, starts 10AM sharp). I have already tweeted some of the images and will be doing some more before today is out. Meanwhile collected here is a a selection of the best images…
